ESL is a folk pop quartet featuring Marta McKeever (Fan Death, Girl Nobody) on vocals and piano, Diona Davies (Geoff Berner, Carolyn Mark, Po’ Girl) on violin and harmonies, Tess Kitchen (Wintermitts) on trumpet and harmonies, and Joy Mullen (Cris Derksen, Fortresses) on drums. The band, now based out of Salt Spring Island and Vancouver, is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year. In 2008, their debut album Eye Contact was a huge success, garnering performances at folk festivals throughout Canada.

ESL’s Heart Contact EP (released May 2016) – the first release in eight years – features a guest performance by Dan Mangan and reaffirms the group’s dynamic and unconventional voice within the Canadian folk music scene. ESL performs songs in five languages: Polish, French, Spanish, German, and English.
