Abigail Lapell was today named this year’s recipient of the Ontario Arts Council’s Colleen Peterson Songwriting Award. In a statement from the jurors, they said the decision was unanimous and described the winning submission, “Jordan,” as “a beautifully written song that evokes a strong sense of place.”

The award comes with a $1,000 cash prize, and will be presented to Lapell at the Folk Music Ontario conference in Ottawa this Sunday, Oct. 23. “Jordan” is set for inclusion on Lapell’s new full-length album, Hide Nor Hair, to be released on January 20, 2017 through Coax Records/Outside Distribution.

Rae Spoon tours with long-time collaborator Alexandre Decoupigny‘s act Plastik on his first tour of Canada. Decoupigny will perform his electronic arrangements for the album Armour as a duo  with Spoon as well as his own solo sets as Plastik.

Plastik also releases their first EP cassette “to” on Rae Spoon’s Coax Records on July 22, 2016. The record is inspired by Alexandre’s partner’s frequent travels between Berlin and Oslo, and is based on piano recordings taken in Liverpool many years ago.
